I took Madelyn in for her two month appointment on Monday. She's really only seven weeks, but we're switching insurance - so we had to get it done. The poor little thing had to have five shots. The doctor asked me to stand above her, so when she felt the pain - she thought I was enflicting it. Does that seem odd? Either way, when they did start giving her the shots she let out the saddest little cry and looked at me like, "what did I do?" For those of you who know Madelyn, she's not the "sad little cry" type. She is a screamer and at times a hisser. I felt terrible but it had to be done.
I'm sure this is old news - but Madelyn has once again gained some weight. She's now 11 lbs 4 oz, and 24 inches long. That puts her in the 90th percentile for weight and 95th for height. She's a big one. We're blessing her in church on Sunday, and it looks like her dress might be too small. At the rate she's going, she'll be four feet tall and fifty pounds by Sunday. Maybe she can borrow a dress from my sister Sarah!

The big 2-4
My birthday is one of my favorite days of the year - right up there with Christmas and Fourth of July. I think it's so funny that everyone hates birthdays after the age of 21. The "I'm getting SO old" mentality sets in. I on the other hand love getting older. Every year something new happens, and why look back when we can look forward?
Rob knows I love my birthday, and this year he made it perfect. He started the day with Belgian Waffles, and then took me shopping. I had the option of new clothes, or a digital camera. Neither of us knew how the clothes thing would go over (I'm still working on my new mom belly.) After trying a few things on, I went with the camera!
We then had dinner at Tepanyaki - a Japanese restaurant where they cook the food at your table and do all sorts of knife tricks. Our chef wasn't that great. He kept messing up and somehow threw the hot metal spatula at one of the girls at our table. The food, however, was still fantastic.
The amazing thing about my birthday, is that it seems to be EVERYONE'S birthday. I can rattle off about ten people that I know who were born Aug 24th - and last night at dinner, out of the three tables that were full, there were three birthdays. The same thing happened at Benny Hanna's when I celebrated with my family (remember family? It was the time when Johnny's glass broke in his mouth, and the waitress just laughed?)
Then after dinner Rob and I went to see the new Willy Wonka. I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not, (I've always been a huge fan of the original) but it was great. Johnny Depp was phenomenal.
Madelyn was a dream yesterday. She spent the whole day as happy as a clam - which made everything easier. Thanks to everyone who called, sent cards, and emailed. I get to pick up my camera this afternoon, so I'm sure there will be new pictures by tomorrow.

175?!
I logged onto our blog today and our hit counter said 175. I just put that thing on a week ago! I can not believe that so many people are checking back to see Maddie. It makes me really happy to know that even though most of my family is far away, they are still trying to keep up with our ever changing daughter.
I'm out shopping the other day and some lady asks to see my baby. I get the ever so famous.."oh she is adorable...how old is she?" I answer, "one month.." She then says, "Wow...she's a chunk." Now the old Melissa would have said something like, "Oh yeah, well you have a big nose." But now that I'm a mom, I have been trying to learn to be more patient. So I said..."She's just big boned." I thought it would be funny, but then again I was shopping at Nordstrom, stuffiest department store ever. I got the you don't belong here look and courtesy laugh. Guess you can't please everyone.
Along the same lines, Rob decided that Madelyn is turning into a blob. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the baby diet isn't really working. I personally think that she's so cute - she is getting so much personality. She is just starting to smile, and every time she does, I want to cry - it's the cutest thing I've ever seen. My family is coming out in three weeks, and I can't wait for them to meet her. It's been really hard having a new baby, and not being able to share her with my family every day. I'll post more pictures soon!

A few more photos - one month old
One Month
It is amazing how time flies. I remember the last month of my pregnancy, every day felt like an eternity. Now that she's here, the days go by so fast - not that we're doing anything special. We are finally starting to establish a bit of a schedule which honestly goes like this:
6:00am wake up and feed Maddie
6:45am convince Maddie it's time to go back to bed and catch up on missed sleep from the night before
9:30am wake up(for real this time) try to eat breakfast - this usually doesn't work becuase Maddie always decides it's time for her to eat instead
10:30am Maddie takes morning nap - I take shower
12:30pm Rob comes home for lunch at which point Maddie wakes up and decides it's time for her lunch.
1:00pm Days of our Lives (what can I say - I'm a stay at home Mom...) Maddie loves this because it's a full hour of couch cuddle time
2:00pm Find some excuse to get out of the house
3:30pm Back home (Time for Maddie to eat again)
4:00pm Try to clean house while Maddie sleeps
6:00pm Maddie's dinner - and Rob and I try to decide what we'll be eating
9:00pm Maddie's 2nd Dinner
9:30pm Bedtime
The days of staying up late are over for Rob and I. We are THRILLED to be able to get in bed by 10:30 (only because we'll be up again at 12:30 am for another feeding)
So that's life in the Wilson home - a much changed life for Rob and I, but one that is so much more fulfilling.
We think Madelyn is doing better - we bought specialty colic bottles that have worked wonders. Last Thursday she screamed non-stop from 2pm till midnight. Colic Stinks! Thanks to all of you who have sent your love and concern for her.

This little piggy had roast beef....
I promise I won't add daily - but I took Madelyn back to the doctor today. We think she's getting better and hope that she continues to improve. She's grown another inch - she's now 22.5 which puts her in the 90th percentile with height. Here's the kicker - she gained another 1lb 3 oz in ONE week. She literally jumped from 38th percentile to 86th percentile. My doctor weighed her twice because he was sure that was impossible. Needless to say, he suggested putting her on a baby diet. I'll let everyone know how that goes....wish me and my little porker luck!
Also, my mom mentioned that she tried to add a comment, but she had to "become a blogger member." I have changed my settings so anyone can post comments - we look forward to hearing from you!

Three Weeks - A few moments of peace
As many of you have heard, Maddie has been sick for the past couple of weeks - nothing serious, just a sick stomach. I guess we haven't taken very many pictures because she spends most of her time crying. So, I thought I'd snap a few while she was asleep. As of Sunday, she seeems to be getting better, and becoming the happy child she once was. I love these pictures because they show how she keeps her feet while sleeping.
At her two week appointment (which really took place at three weeks) Maddie had was 8lbs 1 oz - a full pound heavier than when she was born. I think the entire pound has gone into her chin. What once were four little chin rolls has turned into one big double chin. She was also 21.5 inches (She was 19.5 when first measured).
So she's already starting to grow. It's amazing how fast it happens! Every day we love her more and more. She is such a blessing!

She's Here!
Rob and I are so excited to announce the arrival of our adorable little Madelyn. We've decided to make a page where we can post pictures and exciting events - rather than trying to email them to all of our family and friends. We'll add as often as possible, so keep checking back!
